Artist Statement:
Waterholes are the lifeblood of the Australian landscape—places of sustenance, reflection, and deep cultural significance. Like the land itself, they hold memory, recording cycles of drought and renewal. This work echoes an aerial view of a waterhole, its rippling layers formed from recycled tea bags stained by time. Just as tree rings capture environmental changes, each tea-stained bag holds a unique history, symbolising the way landscapes absorb and reflect the passage of time. Waterhole Memory invites contemplation on the fragility and resilience of our environment, reminding us that water shapes not only the land, but the stories we leave behind.
