Artist Statement:
Upcycling post-consumer waste highlights the value and beauty of resources sent to landfill. Reworking discarded materials draws attention and awareness to the environmental cost of modern-day human passions and pastimes. The local bike shop has copious amounts of discarded, grease covered metal parts just waiting to be reimagined.
However, it is the memory of my Gran that inspired and lives in this artwork. A product of the war years she recycled and repurposed everything. Endless thrift through necessity, decades before it was a fashionable thing to do.
