Artist Statement:
This collaborative piece brings together individual tiles, each a moment of making, gathering individual contributions into a shared surface. Participants engaged with salvaged sail-making materials, canvas, vinyl, and offcuts, bringing texture, touch, and personal response to the piece.
As De’s Tasmanian residency unfolded, the pile of contributing tiles grew – every meeting, every inspirational story, every moment of connection. Using stitch, cord and free motion embroidery the elements were brought together into a cohesive piece, forming a larger landscape shaped by many hands.
Textures of Tasmania speaks to community, material histories, and the quiet accumulation of collective gesture.
