Artist Statement:

kunanyi is composed from thousands of hand-rolled paper beads, wired together through a slow structural process. Individual coloured building blocks are stitched into a layered landscape that shifts between abstraction and recognition.

Through accumulation, the mountain emerges into a single image, echoing erosion, architecture and time. Soft eroded edges resist containment mirroring how landscape exceeds fixed boundaries.

From afar the work reads as a continuous terrain, while up close it dissolves into fragments of labour and repetition. The layered horizon holds kunanyi/Mount Wellington as a steady presence, while Hobart and it’s suburbs rest gently in the mountain’s shadow.
