DAY 7
- 7 May 2026
Artist Residency – Hadley’s Art Prize
Daily Walk to Salamanca
This morning was particularly fresh but the sun was out and the blue sky trailed out into the distance as far as I could see. Fabulous Hobart.
I started to film my walk and little chat only to be interrupted by OMG two cars slamming into each other just ahead.
The studio is changing so quickly I’m trying to capture it daily. My mission today was to set the studio up to welcome visitors. I have brought so many materials from home, it’s a little out of control.
Studio Visitors
I was expecting my first scheduled studio visitors today – custodians of Hadley’s Art Prize and her sponsors – seeing the jaws drop as they stood at the studio threshold was priceless – my job is done – I have arrived.
‘How long have you been here?’ they asked. Accustomed to seeing an artist and their easel set up in the corner with a few paints….
Too much? I asked.
Was the carpet a little OTT? Not to mention the multitude of other colourful items that entirely filled the very generous space. It was day 7 after all – where had you been.
Merch Samples Have Arrived
It was a little cold on the way home, the cold night air was definitely rolling off Mt Wellington. Walked to Officeworks to collect my A6 flyers and then home to my apartment. HoLoS hoodies and business cards had arrived.
Bonus 24hour reception at the Old Woolstore ensures any deliveries are not only signed for but drum roll please…..are delivered to my apartment – even the rather large artworks I had couriered from home. Could get used to this service.
All things HoLoS
I committed myself to opening the studio to the public on Saturdays (market day, guaranteed to be busy) and two weekdays, everything else would have to work around those days.
My planned 8am start on Saturday was a little silly, especially as my body acclimatised to the weather and the laid backed atmosphere that is Hobart – 10am seemed way more civilised .
So good to have A6 flyers to promote HoLoS – my ambitious print run of 100 cards was gone in less than 12hours. Time to order more cards.
